Kurt Ebelhäuser - Producer/Musician

On your homepage there is the following quote: „Kurt Ebelhäuser has the gift of adding further dimensions to the sound of a band without robbing it of its very own identity.“. Do you feel that many of your colleagues lack this gift, and how did you acquire this gift?
Kurt: Unfortunately, I can’t say how my colleagues handle it because I probably would have needed to be present during production. However, I think every producer probably handles this task in the same way. I learned all of this from Guido Lukas at the Blubox Studio, who was my mentor in studio work. Guido was also called the „noise pope.“

When bands come to you with already finished tracks, how much does it hurt the producer Kurt Ebelhäuser not to be able to intervene correctively in the song material?
Kurt: Actually, it doesn’t hurt at all. What’s important is that the band’s „cosmos“ is in harmony. This means that if a band comes to the studio well-prepared with pre-production, etc., and feels comfortable, then everything is right in the band’s „cosmos.“

When you look back on your beginnings, what learning processes would you have liked to have spared yourself or, in other words, what recommendations would you give to young colleagues?
Kurt: Actually, there’s nothing I would have liked to skip. I always say that learning fills the drawers, and later on, you can always refer back to them.
