Lisa & Kai - Festival Organizer
Who is behind the festival organizers and what motivated you to organize the festival?
L&K: We are nine dedicated individuals who form the core of the organizing team. Our main goal is to strengthen the music scene in Tübingen and make it more vibrant and connected for everyone involved. There are already regular metal parties/concerts in the area, many of which are organized by the @metalnight_tue and @bierkellerkinder teams who are part of the Ferryman Festival (FF) organizers. With the creation of the FF, we wanted to take things a step further and provide a larger platform for bands and fans to come together and celebrate their passion for metal music.
What difficulties do you have to deal with as an organizer these days?
L&K: One of the biggest challenges we face is the dramatic increase in costs. While we receive incredible support from volunteers, the financial burden of organizing a festival has increased significantly, making budgeting and planning much more difficult. Additionally, audience behavior has changed - many festival-goers are making last-minute decisions rather than buying tickets in advance. This unpredictability makes it harder to plan with confidence, as pre-sales are a crucial factor in ensuring the success of the event.
You are mainly focused on metal. Are there any efforts to open up the stylistic range or expand the festival (warm-up shows, winter festival, etc.)? What’s your focus when we talk about band booking?
L&K: Currently we don’t have any concrete plans to move away from metal as our primary genre. However, I could see us expanding slightly into classic rock in the future – let’s see. At the moment we are concentrating on doing one big event a year, as organizing smaller concerts and parties takes a lot of time and effort. But we are open to new opportunities and will see what the future holds. When it comes to booking bands, we aim to create a well-rounded line-up, ensuring a diverse and engaging mix of acts. However, this is something we evaluate on a case-by-case basis and adapt as needed to keep the festival exciting and fresh.
