OKEANOS (DE)
Martin (vocals) with 3 facts about his band OKEANOS
You’ve been around since 2023, so why don’t you tell us some background information about the band at the beginning? How did you come together and what’s behind the band name?
Martin: Martin (dr.) and Franz (git.) knew each other from before and had made music together from time to time. As the two of them were a good fit, it went well right from the start. Danny joined next and soon the first song ideas were born. The name OKEANOS comes from the three guys here. Later on, I asked in a Dessau music FB group and Franz got in touch promptly. After a short audition, it was clear that I could be part of it. Marco (ba.) contacted us later in 2023 because he was looking for a new project and often hung out in our rehearsal room complex. It soon became clear that it was a good fit and so we were complete. Behind the band name is a reference to Greek mythology, which is perhaps not so often taken. It stands out and looks nice and clean with our design.
Based on the cover for „Light of ascension“ I had the suspicion that you are more on fantasy paths when it comes to lyrics. In the info, however, there is something about „social and personal topics with unvarnished directness“. How does this obvious contrast fit together?
Martin: Direct statements hit a nerve today more than ever. Addressing what the problem is hurts many people. In the songs, we process the depths and abysses of humanity, be they of a social or psychological nature. On the opposite side of the god, where everything seems to be fine, is the titan, who emerges from the depths. And so does the Titan OKEANOS from Greek mythology. Just like the cruel truth, no titan can be stopped.
What’s planned for you after the release of your second single „Enemy“? When can we expect an album? What are your plans as a band?
Martin: We will be releasing two more songs soon, then our first EP will be complete. Here, too, we will be addressing serious topics, as in all the upcoming songs. Which areas these will be remains to be seen. We haven’t decided yet whether we want to continue releasing EPs or a long player. But the fast pace is more the measure of time.
