The Obscene Extreme Festival (OEF; @obsceneextreme) celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and also took place during Corona times. How was that possible during Corona and what do you think is the secret of your success?

Curby: Yeah!!! Well, during the Corona times, we had a small event called Battlefield Lives with 400 fans and 5 bands, but we were super happy just to see each other and hang out! You can imagine that it felt like a miracle back then! Celebrating 25 years of OEF last year was a completely different thing - over 80 insane bands playing on one stage, my 50th birthday party during the fest, my grandson there all days, and so many great shows. It was like paradise for real!!!

How does the booking process work at OEF? What is important or in other words what’s your focus when it comes to book bands?
Curby: The most important thing is to deliver an awesome live show that kicks ass! So, I go to lots of festivals and local shows wherever I am, always looking for great live acts. And yes, sometimes good dudes like Shane Embury, Danny Lilker, or our very own Bilos tell me, „Check out this band, they’re mint!“ and I do! But in the end, I personally choose every single band.

Is there a band you would like to have at OEF but haven’t managed to get it yet? Why this band and why hasn’t it worked out yet?
Curby: Yes! BOLT THROWER and ABBA never made it to OEF, haha! BOLT THROWER is my absolute favorite band, and we were always in contact, but it never worked out and I really miss them!!! I can also say IMPETIGO, one of my all-time favorite U.S. bands!
