Fö - Online Fanzine Publisher
25 years Bierschinken.net – congratulations on the anniversary. If you look back to the beginnings and then look at today ... which aspects of Bierschinken.net and the work around it have developed over the years for the better and which for the worse?
Fö: Crazy that this stupid website’s been around that long! Still changing, still growing. A lot’s different now - not necessarily better or worse, just different. Okay, one thing is worse: A few years back we managed to review almost every album that came in. Now? Way too much stuff, impossible to keep up. But hey, we’ve got more concert reviews instead. And still lots of ideas for the future.

What do bands/artists have to have to be noticed by Bierschinken.net? Is the stamp punk basically enough or what do you value in particular? Are you only interested in the music and the right attitude or do you also look at how a band presents itself?
Fö: We don’t have any rules about genres. If you wanna write about free jazz - go for it! Whatever’s relevant to our authors is relevant to us. More important is what we don’t want: racism, sexism and other kinds of discrimination can fuck off. Apart from that, we vibe more with down-to-earth DIY bands - with a real message and clear values. No assholes, no fake rock star bullshit.
Since 2011 there has also been your „Bierschinken eats FZW“ festival, which takes place 2 times a year in Dortmund. Why this additional mainstay? It certainly can’t have been boredom. How did it come about that a festival was also needed?
Fö: Call it luck - it just happened! We got the chance to host the fest as a one-time event, it went great, we kept going. But yeah, it was needed back then, there were barely any affordable punk shows in Dortmund!
Now in 2025 the scene here has grown - more DIY promoters, some (but still not enough) cool venues, shows almost every weekend. Maybe our fest is no longer needed now. But if you wanna see tons of exciting bands for a fair price, come hang with us! Next one is on April 10th, 2026 - and it’s gonna be awesome!
