STADTRANDPOETEN (GER)

Peter (keyboards, lyrics, production) with 3 facts about his band STADTRANDPOETEN

You have been around since the beginning of 2024. Please tell us how it came about, how you know each other and whether it was clear from the beginning that your lyrics should be in German?
Peter: We both met in the 90s through bands like GREEN STUFF and U.X.M., and after various musical projects, we formed STADTRANDPOETEN in early 2024. Singing in German was a natural choice – it allows us to express our stories authentically and connect deeply with our audience.

You are a duo. Your songs, some of which are very elaborately instrumented, could only be performed live with aids. Have you planned live shows for the foreseeable future and if so, how do you want to perform the songs? More members, backing tracks, reduced acoustic versions, etc.?
Peter: Yes, we’re planning acoustic-only live shows for 2026. We’ll be adding violin, guitar and bass to bring our songs to life on stage. No backing tracks – just honest, stripped back arrangements that bring out the emotional core of our music. Musicians from the Ruhr region who are interested in such a project are welcome to contact us.

What is your new single „Ich kann mich nicht mehr glauben“ about? I would be particularly interested in the background to the usage of „mich“. Why not „mir“?
Peter: The phrase „Ich kann mich nicht mehr glauben“ uses „mich“ (accusative) instead of „mir“ (dative) to emphasize the subject’s relationship with himself and to express a profound self-alienation. This choice underlines the internal conflict and loss of self-confidence. The text is therefore not about mistrusting one’s own statements, but about questioning one’s own existence and identity. We like to play with the German language. Our big idols are, for example, BOSSE, GRÖNEMEYER and CLUESO.
