You explicitly read the addition tape and vinyl in your reviews section. What is so appealing about the retro media tape and vinyl? Conversely, does that also mean that bands/agencies don’t have to come up with digital promotion or CDs?
Anne: Exactly, we only review albums that have been released on vinyl or tape. And of course we need to have the vinyl on hand. For me, listening to vinyl is a more sustainable experience, in several ways. Not just listening to something on the side, but more consciously. And have you ever listened to a 30-year-old CD? Vinyl is more durable and has lower emissions than streaming.

Why did you stop after only 14 months with the series „Women in the music business“? Kind of a pity. It shouldn’t have failed because of a lack of interest or stories …
Anne: The interest and need to report on woman in the music business is huge. We have decided to add the perspective and have therefore the section diversity dive. We could also do more here - it’s simply a matter of capacity. Also, our team is not as diverse as we want to and women* generally prefer to give such interviews on equal rights to women, cause we’re naturally better sensitized, causes we’re affected by it ourselves. That’s a different basis for an interview, so we need more female editors.

If you have to write a review about an album that you don’t like at all, how do you deal with that situation? Do you pass on the album to someone who likes it or aren’t you afraid to give the album a bad rating?
Anne: We select the albums in advance, but sometimes you have to leave your personal comfort
zone. I like that, listening to something new. Thats how I learnt to love Jazz. And then I have to make a distinction between the music, the craft and my preferences. I don’t have to like the album to describe it. It can be good, even if I don’t like it. That’s okay and I think I can put that in a review.
