Eike Stolzenburg - Radio Presenter
Your show for “lovers of punk” on OSRadio 104,8 is called no!pop. No!pop defines a wide field of musical genres. How open are you to other styles and why did you get stuck with punk?
Eike: When I started my radio format, I was looking for a name that was as bold and slightly provocative as possible, which I found in no!pop. I love punk, but it’s more important that I can support regional bands from the Osnabrück, Münster and Bielefeld area. As I like to invite studio guests, but there are not enough punk bands, I automatically asked bands from other genres. I’m completely open in this respect, so: Be my guest!
How did you get into radio and when did you start with the show? Are you involved in any other musical activities?
Eike: I come from the cassette recorder generation and grew up with Alan Bangs and the legendary John Peel, who is my great role model, especially in terms of musical diversity. I still have 100s of tapes in my archive. However, I only started presenting my own shows in 2017. Getting into contact with OSRadio 104,8 no!pop saw the light of day in the same year. I also organize concerts in Osnabrück, write for several internet media and am currently working on the 2nd edition of the no!pop print fanzine.
What makes a good radio presenter and what criteria do you use to create your program? As the show only takes place every 4 weeks, it is certainly not easy to take everything into account here with the flood of releases.
Eike: As community radio is a niche in the media landscape and makes hardly any demands on presenters, my credo is: just do it. I now pay more attention to vocal melody, short spoken contributions, clean technology and I work out a script. The topics of the programs are far more important in giving the bands the opportunity to present themselves as broadly as possible. I use open questions with plenty of scope for detailed answers. Due to the focus on band interviews, I can only discuss a few releases, so I also write reviews.
