Adam - Radio Station Representative

How long has the Punk Radio Underground (PRU) station been around? Just tell us about the origin and the background of your station.
Adam: PRU launched in 2010, so this year we’re celebrating our 15th anniversary. It’s still a fully independent DIY project free from advertising, but you can support us via PayPal and Patronite.pl. We created it because of a passion for punk music, and we stick to that. Every week, we present news from the scene and bands from around the world. We also provide concert information and support independent gigs and bands. Our playlist includes songs from bands from all over the world.

How many shows are there on your station? Is the station only focused on Poland or are there also broadcasts in English? Are other styles played besides punk?
Adam: We currently have seven different shows on the program. They range from conversations on various topics, interviews, to music from a wide range of hardcore punk genres, including oi, ska/reggae, post-punk, and even occasional metal. We currently broadcast only in Polish, but that’s not a problem, as music is an international language and we have listeners from everywhere.

Your webpage says you have released 65 albums. Do you also act as a label or what else do you do besides radio?
Adam: No, we’re no label, and we don’t organize concerts. Although we promote events and many shows receive our support, the radio’s logo appears on the posters. We then try to talk about these events on air, provide reviews and support on social media. The same goes for albums. So far, our logo appears on 65 albums. This means we promote it free of charge on our radio. We receive about 25 messages a week from bands all of the world. Not every band makes it. They simply have to appeal to us, and it’s best if they’re in the punk genre. PRU isn’t our main source of income. We can’t make a living from it that’s why we go to work every day. All radio-related things we do in our free time. Of course, we get a lot of joy out of it! We get new music and stay generally up to date - we feel like simply as part of that unique punk scene!
