CROWN OF CARCOSA (DE)
You’ve been around since 2022. Tell us a bit about your origins. What inspired you to form the band, and what are your goals for the band?
Benjo: The reason I started the band was because I wanted to play guitar. I’m actually a drummer and started the band with my drum student Felix. After a short time, we found Max on bass and Paul on guitar. From the beginning, the band’s focus was on old-school metalcore. Over time, drummer Felix and guitarist Paul left for personal reasons, but Steve quickly joined on drums and Nico on guitar as replacements. We will continue to make the music we enjoy.

Carcosa appears in literature from various eras and is used by various writers as a state of madness disguised as a city. How did you come up with the band name, and which era/writer influenced you so much that it became CROWN OF CARCOSA?
Max: We were influenced by “The king in yellow” by Robert W. Chambers and the various influences of Carcosa in the Cthulhu Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft, which is my favorite writer. The band name CARCOSA was already taken, which was absolutely predictable. But since “The king in yellow”, who rules Carcosa, is usually portrayed with a twisted crown, we came up with CROWN OF CARCOSA. Also, because it is a remarkable name, which we found easy to remember. Our lyrics do not dig deep into Carcosa as a city but are often featured by aspects of madness.
You write in your info, „... we bring the classic metalcore sound back to the stage ...“. What bothers you about modern metalcore resp. the scene? Why is it important to you to bring the nostalgic aspect of the music genre back into focus?
Nico: We live and love the sound of the old metalcore scene - raw, direct, and without any double meanings. Today, music is often overproduced, with endless layers, backing tracks, and bombastic orchestras. It sounds great - but it creates distance. We’re all about what metalcore used to be: honest, tangible, and energetic. No show, no drama - just us and our instruments. Our songs aren’t meant to overwhelm, but to go straight to your ears and legs.
