Dominika Šimová (Domi) – Online Magazine Editor

 

You have been around for 15 years. Are there any special activities planned for your anniversary? Please tell us something about your beginnings. What made you start Hellmagazine?
Domi: Yeah, a lot of things actually. We changed our layouts, a lot of bands have already sent us greetings, we have had new merch produced, we organized a giveaway for our readers, and we are about to publish interviews with the forming editors of the platform that are still active. And the beginnings? Lovely times! I started doing something I had no idea about and started loving it, that’s why hellmagazine.eu is still here. We are very passionate about it.

You focus more on bigger, established bands with Hellmagazine. Am I seeing this correctly? What is your relationship with the underground scene?
Domi: Well, I agree, it may look like that. In the past, we were mostly focused on the bigger bands, however, as we started establishing our name and experience, we understood we could help the youth and the local scene, which is very important from my perspective. So nowadays, I’d say that we are not limited in the “size” of the band when it comes to cooperation.

In your bio on Instagram there is the sentence „Born in the heart of Europe“. That was still largely true in 2010. 15 years later, however, Slovakia has moved to the geographical edge of Europe due to political circumstances. How worried are people in Slovakia about all this and do the circumstances also have an impact on your work at Hellmagazine?
Domi: Slovakia is right in the center of Europe, geographically. That’s what we meant. Politically, it is difficult. Many of us don’t agree with politicians, their moves and decisions, but what can you do? We try to focus on our lives and music because that’s what makes us feel good.
