SCHLICKTOWN SICKNESS (DE)
SCHLICKTOWN SICKNESS (ScSi) has been around since 2024. What prompted you to launch this one-man project, why as a lone fighter and did you play in bands before?
ScSi: I spent 13 years playing in a metal band whose name isn’t really worth mentioning. At some point, I decided to bring my own ideas to life and go my own way. Back then, I was basically under musical supervision, and that really limited my creativity. When I started this project, all those suppressed ideas just exploded out of me.

In your artist info you emphasize several times that you are an antithesis to the mainstream. What bothers you about the mainstream and why is this opposition so important to you?
ScSi: Very few bands start out as mainstream. In the beginning, most of them just write their own songs, bringing in all kinds of ideas and influences from each member. But at some point, many want more - a bigger audience, a larger fanbase. So, they start working with people who end up cutting down their creativity. Those people only care about the money behind it. Watching musicians lose their identity and turn into mindless puppets is something I find really disturbing. I’d rather have a small fanbase that values authenticity than be the next mainstream act that gets milked for as long as it’s profitable and then thrown away when it’s over.
What plans do you have after the release of “The second self“? Will there be a complete album at some point and will you stay true to the single format? Are there any considerations to appear live?
ScSi: I actually prefer the single format. For me, each song is like a diary - a musical diary that reveals a lot about who I am. That’s why many of my songs sound quite different from each other … I have a pretty split musical personality, you could say. It’s hard to put them all together into one album, especially since I write in English and German. After the release of “The second self”, I’ll definitely keep going and continue to put out authentic work. But it will always remain a pure studio project - no live shows.
