Chris - Online Fanzine Publisher
Who and what is behind Gift & Galle? How did it all start and where do you want to go on your journey with Gift & Galle?
Chris: Gift & Galle has been around for about four or five years now - first as a podcast, and soon after also as a YouTube format. For a bit more than two years, I’ve been doing it on my own; my girlfriend Nancy occasionally joins me as my sidekick. I mainly do interviews and reviews, but also cover concerts and festivals. My goal is to create an established platform for the metal scene, both nationally and internationally, in order to give more support to the metal underground.

Due to the rather manageable editorial size, you are of course limited compared to the abundance of bands and new releases. What criteria do you use to select your features? Which acts don’t stand a chance with you at all?
Chris: It’s quite simple: I do what I enjoy. I have a very broad musical taste, so if I like the music and we get along well, a collaboration might happen. I would never write a positive review about something I don’t like - not even for money.
Through your work at Gift & Galle, you are very close to the scene. Do you notice any differences in the bands that are reaching out over time? In other words, has anything changed with the bands over time, e.g. in terms of quality, communication, style, the way they present themselves, etc.?
Chris: What do you mean by “changed”? Of course, you notice that bands, labels, and promoters perceive you differently than they did in the beginning. So far, I’ve rarely, if ever, had bad experiences. Of course, sometimes when I reach out to a band, I don’t get a response - but that’s absolutely fine. However, there has been one positive change, and that’s the appreciation.
