Pam - Online Magazine Publisher
What made you found Metalinside.ch (MI.ch), how long ago is that now, and would you like to give us a few insights into the development of MI.ch over the years?
Pam: About 15 years ago, I wanted to have a bumper sticker for my car that said there is Metal played inside without having to choose a specific band. That’s how the name „Metalinside“ came about. Shortly afterwards, I met a photographer at a concert at the Schüür (Lucerne). During our conversation, the naive idea was born that I could start a fanzine. Well, and then it just took off from there. More „Metalinsiders“ joined, and to date, more than 50 people have written and/or photographed for MI.ch. Currently, there are about 20 of us who are active, and we are considered the largest Swiss metal webzine in terms of reach.
You are still looking for editors. What do people have to bring with them to be allowed to join you? Are there any efforts to feature more underground topics due to an increase in staff?
Pam: We are not actively looking for new members, but since people keep asking us if they can join, we have posted the requirements on our website. Basically, anyone who has a heart of steel, is reliable, and has a talent for writing and/or photography can join us. What appears on MI.ch is decided by our individual editors. Everyone writes/photographs what they want. We do have some team members who mainly report on underground bands. We cover everything from the local scene to the really big bands.
You yourself are a big METALLICA fan. What still appeals to you about the band and what do you expect from the band in the future?
Pam: I’m a METALLICA fan because of their first four albums. They can’t be topped today, not even by METALLICA themselves. That’s why I have no expectations in that regard. But I think all METALLICA albums are good in their own way - although some of them would be even better if they didn’t have the name „METALLICA“ on them. What I do expect, and what they mostly deliver, is that they remain true to themselves and thus also to the scene
