ORPHAN PLAYGROUND SNIPER (DE)
David (guitar) with 3 facts about his band ORPHAN PLAYGROUND SNIPER
You are celebrating your 20th anniversary this year. Congrats! Is the anniversary being celebrated?
D: Thanks! Yes, the 20th anniversary is definitely something we’re aware of - even if it still feels a bit surreal. OPS started as a side project and with a lot of fun, so surviving for 2 decades was never really planned. We’re currently working on ideas for a special release, a dedicated anniversary show and some exclusive merch. Nothing is carved in stone yet, but we want to celebrate 20 years of OPS properly! Of course, in our own way, with music, friends and controlled chaos.
The following sentence can be found in the band info: „From 2022 onward, OPS unfortunately (or fortunately) became increasingly serious.“. Why did it take over 15 years and what’s so bad about a band striving to work more seriously and professionally? Was this also related to your preference for alcoholic beverages?
D: OPS was a side project for all of us for a very long time. We all had main bands, jobs and private lives, and OPS was the place where we could just have fun without pressure. Around 2022 a lot changed: bands ended, priorities shifted, and suddenly there was more time and motivation to invest in OPS. Being more serious doesn’t mean losing fun - it just means using our experience properly. And no worries: our appreciation for alcoholic beverages is still very much intact.
In 2023 you decided to record a new album. This was released last December via Rising Nemesis Records. Why did it take so long to complete/release it? You approach things calmly and deliberately. Time does not seem to be a significant factor for you ... right?
D: Time was never a critical factor for us. Since it started as a pure fun project, there was no rush and no deadlines. When we decided to record a new album, we wanted to do it properly for the first time - with better preparation, focused songwriting and a production we could fully stand behind. So yes, we approach things calmly and deliberately. We’d rather take our time and release something we’re happy with than rush an album just to get it out.
