Beatrix von Bothmer - Booker/Bandcoach

With Bozilla, you combine your passions of underground music, coaching and networking. To get started, please tell us something about the idea behind it and what exactly you do.
Beatrix: There was no idea behind it. It just happened. A friend was overwhelmed and frustrated with the booking for his band @kingsofdecayofficial. I said, o.k. I’ll take care of it, even if I have no idea about booking. Later, Tom Fock from @lustfingerband approached me to ask if I could take over the booking, since their booker is no longer in the biz. That’s how it started. I build bridges between bands and places, take over communication with the clubs/festivals and try to find new show opportunities.

What exactly do you do when coaching musicians?
Beatrix: It’s difficult for musicians to open up to coaching. The first step is to realize that it does not depend on perfection if you do not connect with the audience, but on your own harmony and the ability to enjoy and live in the moment. This is something that is helpful for life and can also be learned. If a musician is one with the music at the moment, then it doesn’t have to be perfect for the audience to go for it and be touched by it. I show my clients how to be confident and feel confident – on and off stage.

What is important to you when working with bands in the field of booking? What does a band have to bring to the table to be interesting for you? Do you still include bands in your Rooster?
Beatrix: There has to be a magical moment, a kind of spiritual connection, special vibes at a live concert and also in the personal contact that I feel. Also important is respect on both sides in communication and the band’s passion for their own music. I don’t run a professional agency with a comprehensive service, I do it out of passion, not for the money. Sure, in a good concert deal I get my percentages, but that’s not a priority for me. At the moment I don’t take on new bands because I still have a full-time job and I want to concentrate on the bands I currently look after. But I’m always open to new locations and collaborations.
