EMERGE (AUS)
EMERGE hasn’t been around for too long. Could you please give us a short outline of the band’s history or the creation of the band?
Luke: EMERGE started with Ryan’s vision of creating a band with an uncompromising sound. He began looking for like-minded musicians to help bring that vision to life. Dwayne was the first to come on board and put together some early demos, which caught Benito’s attention. Harley joined on bass soon after and the band had its first rehearsal. At the time, Ryan and I had been trying to start another project that never got off the ground, so when I saw what EMERGE was building, I jumped in on guitar.

Musically, according to the band info, you move between Rock and Prog to Nu Metal and Death Metal. Is this broad mix of styles due to the fact that you are only at the beginning of the band’s history and don’t yet know where the journey should finally go? Aren’t you afraid to overwhelm music consumers with this variety of styles?
Luke: Not really. The mix comes from the different backgrounds within the band. We’re spread across Victoria and all come from different corners of heavy music. What ties it all together is what we call Death Groove - a fusion of crushing death metal and infectious groove. That’s always been the core of our sound.
On 19th of June, the video for „Dragged through it all“ will be released. The song is about scars left behind from bad experiences. Do you perceive these scars as something that reminds you to continue and learn from them or as a cut that sooner or later destroys you? Why is the video only released a year after the release of the EP or the song?
Luke: The song is about the constant fight to push through life while everything seems determined to hold you back, until the struggle finally comes to an end and peace can be found. The delay was due to injury - our drummer required surgery around the time of the EP release and faced a long recovery. Now that he’s back, we can move forward again.
