Corambirra Records has been around since 2024. How did the foundation come about and what does “Corambirra” mean?
Falk: The name comes from a breakwater called “Corambirra Point” in Coffs Harbour. If you want, you can take that as a metaphor. In times when most listeners don’t give a sh*t about music, the sweat and people behind it, and when lots of labels are hunting statistics, streams, and clicks, we don’t want to participate in that short-lived music industry driven by trends and social media. We simply want to release kick-ass music that deserves physical media, just because we feel like it. That’s kinda the idea behind Corambirra Records.

On your homepage there is the following sentence: “We don’t chase trends, we amplify authenticity.” … a very honorable goal. Is it possible to be successful with it in today’s music industry and how do you - I’ll just call it label philosophy now - implement it in practice?
Falk: That gets us back to question one. It’ll be successful! Maybe time will prove us wrong, but we don’t want to release music that we cannot completely stand behind. If we fail one day … well, that’s okay.

Currently, the number of label bands at Corambirra Records is still manageable. Will the roster still be expanded or what are your goals here? What criteria are important to you for collaboration with a band?
Falk: We are always open to new projects. Some unannounced ones are already in the pipeline - more details later this year. The most important thing is a trustful, friendship-like but still professional relationship between the artist and us. The music should be authentic and not a gimmick.
