Maxi - Promotion Platform Operator

 

Since when exactly has Metalwohnzimmer (MW) existed, how did it come about, and how many people are involved?
Maxi: I started in October 2024. In the beginning, it was actually a “hey, let’s try that and that and see what happens” kind of thing, and well, it worked out pretty well. We’ve been growing a lot since then, and by now we are a team of three people.

You are very broadly positioned: Promotion • Reviews • Interviews • Concerts • Production. What is the central focus, and how would you define yourselves? A magazine with a strong promotional character or a promotional agency with magazine character?
Maxi: For me, it’s a bit difficult to classify. That is quite hard to answer. I’d say it is more like a promotional agency with magazine character. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that will probably shake the whole concept up a bit. So yeah, it is quite difficult to classify us. I’d say we are a platform that is here to support underground bands in any possible way, all around the world.

You advertise with “No cost at any time!”. I can imagine that interested parties will be lining up at your door. Why non-commercial? What criteria do you use to select your collaborations, and are there bands/styles that are completely out of the question for you?
Maxi: The promotion is non-commercial because we know that the bands we work with do not have the financial resources needed for big campaigns by commercial promoters. As for criteria, we have a few simple rules: Don’t be an a**. That’s it. Obviously, we work with underground bands and are not here to promote the big players in particular. In general, we work with artists that have joined the MW line-up, and we build our content around them (though there are always some exceptions).
