GŸLLE (DE)
Lisa, Nick and Ippo with 3 facts about their band GŸLLE
The band has been around since 2025 and many people may not know you yet. Please tell us something about the band: how did you come together, who is involved, etc.?
GŸLLE: We started when Nick and Ippo, as friends, shared the idea of playing music together. They started searching for a drummer, when they found Leon, who played a key role in writing and developing the first songs and accompanied GŸLLE during the first year. Leon moved to another city, and we found Lisa by a funny coincidence. Since then, Nick brings bass, lyrics and a lot of restless ideas, Ippo adds guitar melodies and punk rock energy, and Lisa tries to hold the whole thing together on drums – preferably as loud as possible. We also recorded our debut album with this lineup. Now we mainly want to play shows, meet people, make noise and at the same time we’re writing new songs and plan to release a new album at some point.
You describe your sound as a pro-democratic punk rock blaster. Why is the term „pro-democratic“ so important to you? Do you feel that the democratic aspect is neglected in other bands?
GŸLLE: For us, „pro-democratic“ means our political position is clear. We stand for solidarity, antifascism and democracy. In times like these, we believe it’s important to make it very clear what our stance is and what lies at the heart of our music. We would not say that other bands generally neglect this. There are many great political bands out there. But for us it was important to put that word right in the middle of what we do.
Your recently released debut album is called „IDŸLLE“ – a title that sounds almost peaceful, while the music is loud and angry. What does the title mean to you?
GŸLLE: That contrast is exactly the point. „IDŸLLE“ sounds soft, almost comfortable, but the world around it is not. The album title is pure sarcasm, because as far as we’re concerned, the state of the world is the opposite of idyllic. The songs are loud, angry and political because we do not want to look away. So „IDŸLLE“ is not a peaceful escape. It is more like a cracked postcard from a place that looks nice until you look closer.
